Boulder Digital Works student Michael Lanning recently completed a piece for the school’s ‘Story Project’.
'Story Project' is a class that allows students to explore the possibilities of narrative design in a variety of forms, including visual narrative, flip books, audio theater, games, and the written language. When asked by his instructors to tell a story using a medium of his choice, student Lanning created ‘Balloons!’, a visually stimulating and heart-warming piece that tells the story of two balloons falling in love. Michael decided against a horizontally-moving piece and instead created a vertically-moving piece - and what is more vertically moving than two balloons?
From a technical standpoint, Lanning created the video using a combination of Cinema 4D, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator and, aside from a few background elements in the cafe scene, every item in the video, including the balloons, was created from scratch.
'Story Project' is a part of BDW Labs, a course offered at BDW that provides students an environment for experimentation with technologies.
