The Mill has announced its significant role in 'The Thoughtful Pig', a groundbreaking global campaign in partnership with World Animal Protection and All Mighty Pictures. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of factory farming on animals and the environment.
Jorge Montiel, animation director at The Mill, has been instrumental in bringing the campaign's visual elements to life. "At the heart of this campaign lies our protagonist, a photorealistic CGI pig asking the question that tugs at our ethical compasses: 'Do you think that I think?'" Montiel says. This simple yet profound query serves as a gateway to an exploration of the incredible abilities and intelligence possessed by pigs, who are among the five most intelligent animals on Earth.
The Mill's team has meticulously crafted every detail of the CGI pig, from its anatomy to its emotional expressions. "Animating our hero pig was one of the most challenging aspects. We had to convey complex emotions and thoughts while maintaining realism," Montiel elaborates. The campaign began with an vast research phase, delving into the lives and behaviors of real pigs to ensure accuracy and realism in the CGI creation. "Our journey began with an extensive research phase. We delved into the lives and behavior of real pigs to understand their movements, expressions, and anatomy," says Montiel.
Factory farming is the single largest cause of animal cruelty and environmental degradation globally. Over a billion pigs are held in deplorable conditions, denied their natural behaviors, and needs. "This project is a testament to the power of creative collaboration. We are proud to stand alongside World Animal Protection and All Mighty Pictures," Montiel adds.
