In a ground breaking initiative, Sweden's largest law firm has unveiled a legal agreement designed specifically for pet owners. The contract allows couples to co-own their pets, ensuring that furry family members remain with their rightful owners in the event of a future separation or divorce.
As pet ownership continues to rise globally, so does the conflicts around pets during divorces. According to Swedish law, pets are equal to furniture, meaning that they should be included in a property division during a divorce. And since only one person can be registered as the pet’s owner, the other part risk to lose their beloved pet if getting divorced.
To launch the contract, the law firm is also releasing a photo book featuring dogs and design, to showcase the resemblances visually and legally. The creative project features striking images of dogs alongside their furniture counterparts.
“Pets are family members, and they should be treated as such. In this campaign, we did not just make people aware of the problem – we also provided them with a solution” says Ellen Marklund, copywriter at TBWA Stockholm.
