Reverie director JJ Augustavo has released his new short film, 'OUT OF THE ABYSS'.
'OUT OF THE ABYSS' is a short coming of age story detailing the life, people and place that have shaped a 15 year old Seattle kid named, Dreson Jimerson AKA Mto Dooda.
On developing the film, JJ says "We all come from somewhere. We all call somewhere home. And my home is Seattle. It's the place that made me, the place where I cut my teeth and found my voice. And no matter how far and wide my filmmaking career has taken me, my heart will always lie there. So for me, something that has always mattered was staying connected to my hometown in any way possible. With this short, OUT OF THE ABYSS, I found a new connection through the 15 year old son of one of my deceased friends from the city.
"Out of the Abyss, is a short coming of age story detailing the life, people and place that have shaped a 15 year old artist named, Dreson Jimerson AKA Mto Dooda.
"Dooda is a kid who has lost it all, had the chips stacked against him in every way possible and been told from the day he was born he was worthless. AND despite his window of survival and success being next to impossible, is willing to persevere.
"You see, Out of the Abyss, is simply the beginning of his story. This is part 1 of so many more to come. In a world that forgets kids like him, I am championing Dooda with the one ability I have and want nothing more than to have people learn about him, look up his music and follow his journey.
"It is an exciting project that most rarely get to be a part of and I believe wholeheartedly in Dooda — he has something special."
