The Havas Sydney HQ is situated in the Bushells Building, a landmark heritage-listed former tea warehouse and factory in The Rocks. The seven-storey building was occupied by Bushells for 50 years and today it’s the home of more than ten Havas companies.
The building sits upon Gadigal land. So, to celebrate the history of the land, our values, culture, diversity and, most importantly, our people, we have launched the Budjari range - our own branded tea. In the Gadigal language, there is no word for “welcome”...but “Budjari” is the nearest, which means a ‘friendly recognition’ and ‘hello’.
The teas will give us a chance to tell our story in a surprising way to staff, clients and suppliers, while acknowledging the traditional owners of the land through the use of indigenous ingredients.
Pete Ogden, creative partner said, “This idea started as a simple onboarding idea to leverage the history of the Havas Village’s Sydney HQ. But we soon realised we had a much bigger idea if we matched the unique properties of indigenous teas with the day-to-day requirements of the staff of the entire village. And being a pom, anything to do with tea excites me!”
Gary Wallis, head of creative service said, ‘Producing this work, we had to be authentic, working with Blak Brews and artist Kate Constantin was so insightful for me to learn about our wonderful indigenous culture here in Australia’.
