A monthly cinematic experience for creatives, directors and producers

The Mill introduces Rookie Film Club, a monthly cinematic series designed for advertising creatives, producers, and storytellers who crave bold, boundary pushing filmmaking.

What is Rookie Film Club?

Spearheaded by The Mill London executive producer, Jack Howard, Rookie Film Club is not just about watching films – it’s about experiencing cinema that inspires, provokes, and sparks creativity. Held monthly on Wednesday evenings at The Mill’s underground cinema, the club is a space where like-minded film lovers can come together to eat, drink, connect, discuss, and be challenged by films that push the limits of imagination and redefine the art of filmmaking.

Each screening begins with complimentary drinks, pizza and some delicious sweet treats, generously provided by our sponsors – Dinner for One Hundred, Something & Nothing, Platter Up and Jubel Beer – the perfect fuel for making connections and sparking conversation.

Why “Rookie”?

The name Rookie reflects the spirit of curiosity, exploration, and fresh perspective that drives the club. It’s about approaching cinema with the enthusiasm of someone discovering it for the first time, no matter their experience. For seasoned creatives, it’s a chance to see films through a new lens; for newcomers, it’s an invitation to dive into audacious filmmaking that challenges norms and sparks ideas.

Three Programming Strands

The Rookie Film Club programme is curated across three eclectic strands:

1. Landmark Debuts – Every legend starts somewhere. Landmark Debuts showcases the audacious first films of cinema’s most iconic directors and fresh voices. These are the bold beginnings that announced ground breaking talents and forever changed the art of filmmaking.

2. Timeless Wonders – Journey into the awe-inspiring and enduring masterpieces of cinema. Timeless Wonders brings to the screen films that transcend their time, capturing universal truths and the magic of human experience. These are the stories that remain as breath taking and relevant today as when they were first told.

3. Outcasts & Misfits – A celebration of rebels, outsiders, and nonconformists. These are the films that embrace the fringes of society, pushing boundaries and shattering norms. From quirky characters to daring narratives, Outcasts & Misfits tells the stories of those who don’t fit in- and don’t care to.

Spring Season Highlights

The inaugural spring season will feature a captivating line up of films, starting with a Valentine’s special screening of Wong Kar-wai’s seminal (and steamy) film In the Mood for Love on 12th February. Other highlights include the late David Lynch’s debut cult classic Eraserhead on 19th March, followed by Jean-Luc Godard’s ground breaking Breathless on 9th April.
