The Medium and Babybel Shortlisted for D&AD Awards 2021
Babybel “Join the Goodness” tells a story of beloved cheeses as they bring health and taste to a world overtaken by fast food. It was one of Platige’s most complex projects of 2020, post-produced almost entirely remotely. Inspired by gigantic Japanese malls and filled with dozens of personified objects, the world of food feels real and lived in. Every designed element stemmed from a real-world counterpart. The artists studied vintage French trains, American cars, and even the technique of cheese wax sculpting that originated in Benelux, which helped create the look of Babybel characters.
The Medium is a horror videogame, following a terrifying narrative, in which the main character Marianne tries to solve a murder mystery. The protagonist can swiftly move between two realms, the human one, and the world inhabited by ghosts and phantoms. This second dark dimension was inspired by Zdzisław Beksiński's paintings. The live-action trailer was written by Tomek Bagiński, who acted as a creative producer as well. “Medium is an innovative horror, but its main advantage is the fantastic personalities of all characters, both heroes and opponents. With actors, we could go in an even more emotional direction than if we only had animated characters,” says Tomek.
Winners will be announced during the Award Ceremony on 26th and 27th May.
