She’s older than the Internet. More famous than a meme. And still no emoji? This spring, The Laughing Cow is putting her hoof down: it’s time for the icon of laughter to finally earn her spot on our keyboards.
With support from Havas Creative Canada, The Laughing Cow is launching a Canada wide petition to request the creation of an emoji in her image. The goal is simple: to pay tribute to this joyful figure who has been making children and adults smile for over 100 years - long before or. Available now here at, the petition is open until June 8th.
But this campaign isn’t just for laughs. Every signature equals a 50-cent donation to Food Banks Canada, the equivalent of one meal for someone in need. It’s a simple and collective way to make a real difference.
“There’s an emoji for almost everything… So why not one for the real icon of laughter?” says Marie-Ève Robert, vice president of marketing and sustainability at Bel Canada. “And if we can do that while supporting Food Banks Canada, that’s a double win.”
The campaign launched with a manifesto video and humorous fake front pages of newspapers across the country. It also comes to life in the streets through outdoor displays across major Canadian cities, with influencers, as well as on META and TikTok, where the brand’s spirit shines through animated text message conversations.
Developed by Havas Creative Canada, in collaboration with Spark Foundry for media, Clark Influence and NATIONAL Public Relations for PR, this nationwide 360 campaign is set to make the whole country smile - while aiming to secure a well-deserved place in emoji history.
