Lisa Hayley-Jones, director of policy and government affairs at the Advertising Association responds to Cabinet appointments

On the appointment of Jonathan Reynolds MP as secretary of state for business and trade, Lisa Hayley-Jones, director of policy & government affairs, said, “The Advertising Association welcomes the appointment of Jonathan Reynolds as Secretary of State for Business and Trade. We look forward to working with him to drive growth across the economy through our sector’s work across the nations and regions of the UK and through further growth in exports of UK advertising and marketing services around the world. The advertising industry can help to create sustainable growth in the UK economy by fostering innovation, competition, job creation, and investment in businesses and markets of all sizes.”

On the appointment of Lisa Nandy MP as secretary of state for culture, media and sport, Lisa added, “We welcome and congratulate Lisa Nandy on her appointment as Secretary of State for DCMS. The UK advertising industry is an important part of the creative industries, working alongside our colleagues in film, TV, the arts, fashion, gaming, design and more to power our creative culture here in the UK and on the world stage. At the same time, we provide hugely valued services to all kinds of businesses, large and small, that help them to innovate, compete, create jobs and secure future investment, supporting growth across the wider economy. We look forward to working with the Secretary of State to help achieve the new government’s priorities, including increased investment in the creative industries in the regions and greater support for creative education and skills which are critical to our industry’s success.”

On the appointment of the Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP as secretary of state for energy security and net zero, Lisa said, “The Advertising Association welcomes the appointment of Ed Miliband as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. Advertising can help raise awareness of the climate crisis, promote positive behaviour change, and foster innovation and competition in sustainable products and services, all to support the government’s growth agenda. Our climate action programme, Ad Net Zero, is working to decarbonise the sector and champion work that supports a sustainable future, as seen through the inspirational winners of the Campaign Ad Net Zero Awards. Alongside this, our self-regulatory body is working constantly to ensure UK advertising does not carry any misleading environmental claims. We look forward to working with the Secretary of State to help achieve his mission of driving sustainable growth in the economy.”
