TAG Heuer’s Retro Style Interactive Manga for Instagram Soccer Competition
Tokyo creative agency,UltraSuperNew, launch ‘Pressure Free Kick’ for J.League sponsor TAG Heuer. It’s a five-day long competition to win soccer tickets to J.League games, with an interactive game on Instagram.
‘Pressure Free Kick’ is an interactive playable manga game accessed exclusively via TAG’s Instagram account @tagheuerjapan, on Instagram Stories.
The game turns the Instagram slider sticker into an extremely accurate shoot bar which challenges users to the ultimate test of soccer skill: scoring the free kick that gives their team the winning goal. Choosing the correct power equals a goal, equals a win of soccer game tickets!
For five days, players get to shoot free kicks – 1 per day – each time from a different distance to the goal, needing to check the next Instagram Story if their shot was accurate enough to score and win tickets. Soccer lovers wanting to get their hands on those coveted tickets, need to precisely select the strength of their shot in order to score, also taking wind speed, wind direction and distance into account – just like real strikers!
Soccer in Japan is inseparable from the 80s manga that made the sport so widely popular all over the country. Epic storylines, tales of underdogs that beat the odds, and out-of-this-world goals, are forever ingrained in the way the Japanese enjoy playing and watching soccer.
Francois Claverie, Creative Director of UltraSuperNew in Tokyo added:
“TAG Heuer actually lives by their motto: “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”. They love a challenge as much as we do. Our first campaign, the ‘Pressure PK’ Twitter bot game, was a lot of fun to develop, and generated levels of engagement we could not have anticipated. With ‘Pressure Free Kick’, we hope to repeat the feat on Instagram, with this fresh twist on Instagram Stories.”
