The production company has expanded its team at the Fitzrovia Studio to five sound designers

Award-winning sound design and music production facility String and Tins is thrilled to announce it has expanded its roster of sound designers to five, hiring Joe Wilkinson to work alongside Will Cohen, Mike Bamford, Andy Stewart and Alex Bingham.

String and Tins have had a successful year, demonstrated by accolades at the British Arrows, D&AD, Creative Circle, LIAs, The One Show, Cannes Lions, Shots and Music and Sound awards.

Co-founders Sam, Mike and Will have a track record of spotting and nurturing young talent. They have shown confidence in bringing Joe Wilkinson on board – he promises to be an exciting and valuable addition to the fast-growing studio.

Joe is String & Tins’ third new signing and they're hoping he'll prove as successful as their previous additions. Joe’s short yet impressive career started only four years ago. Highlights include being a finalist for Best Sound Design in a Short Film at the Music and Sound awards, curating live foley events at Apiary Studios, chalking up a win at the International CDR Project and travelling to Cuba to learn first hand how to play the ‘Tres’ guitar (Google it!).

Their first signing, sound designer and composer Andy Stewart quickly established himself with big Audi and Nike mixes, in addition to writing music for solo piano, band and orchestra on other projects. Last year Alex Bingham was brought across from the world of broadcast promos where he’d picked up awards at the Emmys and Promax. In his new role as sound designer and composer at String and Tins he has worked on campaigns for Guinness, KFC, The BBC and the UK's only short film to receive a Palme D'Or nomination at Cannes this year, ‘Dreamlands’ directed by Sara Dunlop at Rattling Stick.

Mike Bamford, Founding Partner at String and Tins, explains “When you start talking to someone with a shared interest and suddenly an hour has passed and the rest of your friend group has glazed over…. That's what happened when Joe and I struck up a conversation about synthesizers in a pub last year. Joe has incredibly diverse sound interests. He's equally at home recording organic sounds, playing jazz guitar or noodling on a modular synth, which makes him a perfect fit for our team - I'm excited to see how we can develop and push him.”

"The opportunity to join String and Tins is an extremely exciting one” says Joe.  “To me, it is a hub of sound creators who want to make the best noises on the best projects, and have fun in the process. I'm looking forward to the challenge, being a part of the team and creating some great sound."
