In a time when every vote counts, the #SpeakYourVote movement highlights the power and influence of the nearly 113 million eligible voters from gen z and millennials, who together represent almost half of the total voting population. Their voices are crucial to shaping the nation’s future; however, historically, voter turnout among these groups has been low, and this campaign aims to change that by creating a platform where art meets activism.
The Stevie Wonder #SpeakYourVote #OpenVerseChallenge is an innovative way for artists of all backgrounds and generations to get involved. Using TikTok’s 'Duet' feature and/or the 'Remix' feature on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, participants can record their own verse, inspired by Stevie Wonder’s call to action. These short, creative clips allow users to express what voting means to them and encourage their followers to engage in the democratic process.
With Stevie Wonder’s legendary influence and the viral nature of social media, the campaign hopes to inspire millions of young people to get registered, get informed, and get to the polls. Whether it's about justice, equality, climate change, or the economy, the #SpeakYourVote movement is about harnessing the collective voice of a generation for positive change.
Dr. Shannon Arvizu, founder of Civic Wisdom Foundation, who initially launched #SpeakYourVote in partnership with purpose-driven creative agency David&Goliath and a diverse group of industry creators including Van’s General Store, Union Editorial, Barking Owl, and Spacedog Co stated: “A lot of young people today are turned off by divisiveness. They want to work towards common ground, as Stevie Wonder invites us in to his heartfelt track.”
