Karen Lamond began her career in fashion photography, following a post-graduate in fine art. Her directorial debut - in a decidedly rock and roll fashion - encompassed striking art-house music promos for the likes of critically acclaimed Seal, Garage, and Texas.
Her impressive artistic background and versatile ability flourished her effortless ease moving into the world of commercials. Karen’s stunning reel sports work for Vera Wang, Ernest Jones, Galaxy, Special K, and Ecover. Through the camera lens, she captures the female perspective in a beautiful, natural, and powerful way.
This year brought the exciting release of ‘After’. A music documentary directed by Karen Lamond chronicling youthful aspiration in the '80s Scottish music scene.
Alongside this, Karen has two art projects near opening. The first, ‘And If Not Now When’, is a film and sound installation centred on a busy urban junction. Created with the composer Phillip Phinksy, this installation’s aim is to provoke and empower the audience through a visceral, humorous, and seductive experience.
The second, ‘Friendship Conrad & Issac’, is a long-term intimate photographic study.
This exhibition follows a boyhood friendship over 18 years, capturing their changing bodies across a changing landscape. Karen has also directed a narrative short film this year entitled ‘Consumed’, funded by a grant from Creative Scotland.
