What is normal? Who knows...
But social media has become the new normal when it comes to recruiting.
I was pretty surprised to read recently that if you are not building social media into your recruiting efforts then you’re not up to scratch with the industry standard. Social media has been around for well over a decade (who remembers Six Degrees in 1997), so it’s not the statement that surprised me but the fact that many businesses are still potentially not incorporating social media into their recruiting efforts!
People are consuming content in a different manner, with a wealth of ways to find and consume content, you often don’t have long to get your point across. Although it can be a mine field, social media makes your life easy, it is a limitless platform to reach a wide audience. Particularly the millennials who were brought up on social media and will use this as their first stage to finding what they are looking for, whether it is the latest news or seeking a job.
Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube and of course LBB; all provide the perfect means to reach a range of candidates, with higher numbers of candidate applications coming through off the back of social media.
Having said all that, social media can only get you so far. When it comes down to it, social media can help make the connection but its speaking to a real person that can get you to where you want to be.
