University Challenge presenter Amol Rajan accidentally cemented himself as an icon on the UK rave scene last week. In a clip that has since gone viral, Amol corrects an answer from Aberdeen University with a phrase that will go now down in dance music history: ‘I can’t accept drum n bass, we need Jungle I’m afraid’. The clip has since been sampled in countless Jungle jams across social media.
This surprisingly isn’t the first time a TV presenter has inadvertently kick started their music career; Louis Theroux famously went viral in 2022 with ‘Jiggle Jiggle’ after reciting lyrics on Chicken Shop Date. But Amol’s Jungle moment has truly bought the genre front and centre in the UK music scene, and SIREN’s resident Jungle expert, Chris Christoforou, thinks it’s about damn time.
