The debut screening was Wong Kar-wai’s ‘In the Mood for Love’, a visually extravagant, heart-aching masterpiece that set the perfect tone for the night

Last week, The Mill rolled out the red carpet (metaphorically, of course) for the very first Rookie Film Club—a brand-new event series for film lovers to kick back, connect, and soak up some cinematic magic.

The debut screening was Wong Kar-wai’s ‘In the Mood for Love’, a visually extravagant, heart-aching masterpiece that set the perfect tone for the night. Advertising creatives, producers, and directors from across the industry piled in, buzzing with excitement—and let’s be real, some top-tier fuel: Dinner for One Hundred’s legendary pizza, Platter Up’s indulgent sweets, and an ice-cold Jubel Beer or a Something & Nothing premium soda in hand.

Of course, no gathering in adland is complete without a little inspiration before the main event. Before the film, guests were treated to a screening of some of our favourite Super Bowl spots, along with director Stuart Langfield’s award-winning short film ‘Synthetic Pleasures—a perfect warm-up for an evening dedicated to bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.

The vibe was electric, romantic, and full of that unmistakable thrill that only great films and even better company can create. Rookie Film Club proved that there’s something special about coming together IRL to celebrate cinema. Ben Clark, managing director of The Mill London, said, “It was a privilege to bring the creative community together at The Mill’s London studio, a space where so much creativity and innovation has been born. We look forward to hosting the next one."

So, when’s the next one?! Join The Mill team for David Lynch’s landmark debut, ‘Eraserhead’, on Wednesday 19th March. Visceral visuals and a creepy score, this ‘70s surrealist horror continues to redefine what a feature film can do both to and for audiences willing to take the journey. Of course, there will be more food, more drinks, and more conversation, don’t miss it!

If the strange and surreal isn’t your thing, the 1960’s French New Wave film, Breathless, with its lack of polish, surplus of attitude, and anything-goes crime narrative, might be more up your street. Screening on April 9th for all Rookies.
