Partizan's Ali Kurr captures the stylised period world

Rina Sawayama is trapped in an isolated wooden house in period attire for her latest video from Partizan's Ali Kurr. As she tries to escape she keeps getting pulled back by an invisible force but she eventually finds freedom.

Ali Kurr explains more about the project, "For our latest collaboration, Rina and I wanted to dive into a Westworld-inspired saga that sees her trying to escape from a secluded ranch. We never see or name the force but its magnetism causes her to be pulled fifty metres across the scorched grass to her being caught mid-air after falling from the roof.  This stylised period world is then contrasted with a 'Dogville' set up in a studio that sees a free, powerful Rina performing an insane piece of choreography by Josh Pillomore."

"As we draw to the end the modern and old worlds fuse, with Rina eventually breaking free from the house. As the sun dips below the horizon, a troupe of dancers perform till they turn their backs and she plummets to her knees. It was all about capturing the feeling of having the strength to leave a situation and then when that initial adrenaline rush leaves you, all you are left with is the memory that can often leave you feeling even more alone."

"We've been making videos together for over a decade now and I constantly pinch myself on set when I think about how far we have come. From making videos in our flats with £50 art budgets to now getting to play with zip lines and stunt coordinators we push ourselves each time to make something that's even more exciting and unexpected for her fans. This drive and love for what we create, alongside her insane artistry as a musician, has resulted in 'Hold The Girl' being one of my favourites to date and I can't wait to get back on set and start shooting something nuts again soon."
