Revolver Films is excited to announce the signing of director Phillip Montgomery to the Revolver family.
Raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis / St. Paul, writer and director Phillip Montgomery now resides in sunny Los Angeles. He came to the Golden State after receiving his film degree from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He has directed numerous critically acclaimed films, TV, and music videos, along with award-winning commercials for brands such as Lexus, Jack Daniel’s, Guinness, Uber, IBM, and more.
Most recently Phillip has directed some TV for the likes of PARAMOUNT+ and HISTORY. His 2019 short film BIG BOY PANTS, starring Emmy Nominated Finn Wittrock (RATCHED, VERSACE, AHS), premiered as a Vimeo Staff Pick and is worth a watch. In 2018, he received the Cannes Silver and Bronze Lions for his commercial work with the 60th Anniversary Grammy Awards. That year, his genre-bending dance/horror film CHILD OF THE SKY had a busy festival run and premiered at the 2018 New York Film Festival.
In 2013 Phillip earned a place in SHOOT MAGAZINE’s prestigious New Directors Showcase and the Cannes 2013 New Director Award for his documentary work with the 2012 Olympic Games for P&G. In 2012, Phillip made his feature documentary film debut with #ReGENERATION, exploring the state of activism in today’s youth. Narrated by Academy Award Winner Ryan Gosling, #ReGENERATION won Best FutureWave Feature (The Youth Jury Award) at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was released in over 12 cities theatrically in May of 2012.
Says EP/MP Luc Frappier, “The range of work between his long form storytelling and commercial style immediately attracted us to Phillip. The crossover between genres further aides in pursuing work that pushes the storytelling boundaries and we are very excited to explore this with Phillip.”
Says EP Richard Cureton: “We are delighted Phillip has agreed to join us at Revolver Films. We had the opportunity to meet in person over the summer while he was in town directing a feature film, and it was clear from our conversation that his ethos was in line with ours. In addition to that, he has been prolific in both advertising and long form, meaning there is a diversity of types of work we can call on him for. We have seen an evolution in his work that fits in perfectly with the work we are aspiring to do. We look forward to a bright future in the Canadian market.”
Says director Phillip: “Revolver Films is a company that has established themselves as one of the best production houses in North America. But the ‘establishment’ they are not. Richard and Luc are amazing collaborators with an eye towards what’s next. That’s what I find most exciting, and am honoured to be a part of the team.”
