Reel Factory is fizzed to be adding the
Truesdell Brothers to its director roster. Hailing from New York, Tim and Will Truesdell are known for their innovative blend of traditional and digital filmmaking methods, dabbling in the world of AI to create larger-than-life stories that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of VFX and virtual production.
Using groundbreaking tools like Unreal Engine, Houdini, Nuke, Gen-AI and more, the Truesdell Brothers create immersive cinematic experiences by blending physical and digital realms in ways that have never been seen before. Their work in virtual filmmaking—whether it's bringing virtual sets to life, enhancing live-action shoots with CGI, or crafting detailed pre-viz sequences—offers a revolutionary approach to storytelling.
"We believe that physical reality shouldn't get in the way of a good story, and we're excited to explore new ways of telling those stories with the team at Reel Factory," says Tim Truesdell.
Eager to stay atop of emerging tech, the brothers are constantly looking for breakthroughs in technology, tracking down experts in the field and absorbing as much information as possible. From there it’s all trial and error, with most learning coming from doing.
“A lot of people are excited about AI/VFX because they make things faster and cheaper. To us, fast and cheap is a quick race to the bottom. What we are excited about is how these tools can do something that wasn’t possible before. Can it tell a story in a new way? Or reflect a new side of humanity,” says Will Truesdell.
As directors, the Truesdell Brothers bring a unique set of complementary strengths to the table. Tim is a visionary with a deep respect for traditional filmmaking, while constantly exploring new technological avenues. Will, with his background in editing and post-production, excels at refining stories and ensuring every scene hits its emotional beats.
“There’s a lot of buzz around AI and what it means for advertising. The Truesdell Brothers are incorporating new tech with traditional filmmaking in a way I haven’t seen anyone else do,” says Dan Watkins, Reel Factory company director.
“They may be American but they have a real Kiwi number eight wire approach to filmmaking and AI - if they don’t know how to do something, they, like us, figure it out and make it happen”.
