Los Angeles-based Recommended Media has signed noted automotive director Alexander Paul for U.S. commercial representation. The international Director has gotten recent acclaim from US agencies and clients. Hyundai out of Innocean, Subaru from Carmichael Lynch, and Buick from McCann, Detroit are a few of the projects he has done that continue to play on air in the States.
Primarily known for his expert car work, Paul has lent his precision eye for composition and his sensitivity as a filmmaker to bring human warmth to global campaigns for Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Hyundai and Chevy to name a few. His short film, “The 10th floor”, and other recent efforts, including character-driven, action thriller spot for Dunlop out of ADK, Tokyo mark his move toward filmic narratives.
Recommended Executive Producer Stephen Dickstein notes, “Alexander has become an “A” list director in the automotive field. His bespoke work for Dunlop, Subaru and Hyundai transcend just beautiful execution. Narrative storytelling, human warmth and an emotional approach to his film work distinguish and connect unique differences in car brands.” Adds Paul, “I am really excited to have found this wonderfully experienced team. It is great to know that I have Phillip, Jeff and Stephen all bringing their various strengths to the table to support and challenge me in my career.”
Coming from a creative family, Cologne-born Paul took an unconventional path to the director’s chair. After attending some of the finest schools in Europe, achieving an MBA, starting and running an extremely successful production company as an EP on scores of commercials for over 10 years, his clients began demanding more and more of his personal creative involvement, especially in an arena he had particular passion: automotive.
In 2003, his love of design, photography, art and music culminated to a much-heralded directing career, which garnered him national and international awards and recognition. He has since directed over 90 commercials, working with former agency producer Susanne Porzelt as his line producer. When not directing, Paul spends his time honing his creative approach with pursuits in photography and screenwriting. Prior to this announcement, Alexander Paul was with Mighty, which recently merged with Backyard.
