Radioaktive Film, the production service company credited for making Ukraine a popular filming destination, celebrates its 20-year anniversary. The full-service production company has built a formidable reputation for its array of award-winning shortform films for brands such as Nike, Audi, Apple, and Xbox, and internationally-celebrated longform projects.
Established by two American partners in 1998, Radioaktive Film has become the go-to production company in Ukraine. It has revolutionised filmmaking in the country – transforming it into a popular shoot destination for UK and American-based companies in recent years. In that time, it has worked on iconic music videos such as Paulo Nutini’s ‘Iron Sky’ and Coldplay’s ‘Up&Up’, as well as countless award-winning commercials and feature films including The Death of Stalin (2017).
Over the last two decades in business, Radioaktive Film has not only remained consistent throughout industry changes but also incredibly weathered two revolutions. Its persistence has paid off; now comprised of a team of over 50 highly-skilled, full-time production staff, Radioaktive’s work is recognised on the world stage. It has gone on to produce and service some of the biggest works filmed in the country, including Xbox’s Halo ‘The Hunt Begins’ and Hennessey’s V.S ‘Major’. The team has also worked on 19 Cannes Lions-winning spots, including Libresse’s ‘Blood Normal’ which won a Grand Prix Glass Lion and a Titanium Lion. Radioaktive’s works have been recognised at prestigious awards such as British Arrows, MTV VMA, the Epica Awards, and Shots Awards.
As well as having introduced Ukraine’s versatile locations to the Europe, the company also regularly services shoots in nearby Georgia, which offers a diverse set of aesthetics and shoot opportunities, from medieval castles to futuristic glasswork landmarks.
The company’s success shows no sign of stopping – having recently been awarded Shots Production Company of the Year 2018 Award.
Partner and Managing Director, Jane Yatsuta says: “All the experience we gained through navigating the Ukrainian market over the last two decades has helped us to become an equal player in the world of international service production. All the ups and downs of Ukrainian history have only made us stronger and more creative.”
Darko Skulsky, Executive Producer and Co-Founder, comments: “It feels good to be recognised by our peers as a reliable production partner. It has been a rough road but a fun one. Thanks to all our partners - you rock!”
