As a music supervisor, it goes without saying that music and film occupy a central place in my life. Cinema has provided me with an immense wealth of cultural experiences, profoundly influencing my musical sensibilities. Among the countless favourites and discoveries I've made through soundtracks, there's one nugget I'd particularly like to share today: Ethiojazz.
I doubt I would have discovered this musical treasure when I was 20 if I hadn't come across Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers. There's no need to introduce Jim; it's well known that in his films, music plays a fundamental narrative role, adding an extra dimension to his stories.
My hope is to introduce this genre to those who haven't yet discovered it. If that happens, my day will be over. For those who are already fans, I invite you to savour these timeless classics, ideally accompanied by a cup of coffee.
Happy listening.
