Radio LBB: Future Blues

Inspired by this week’s trailer and release later this year of Blade Runner 2049 we have decided to assemble a playlist to soundtrack the inevitable dominance of AI and the ultimate crushing of the human race.

In recent years a number of artists have been exploring a futuristic hybrid of music and sound design, dark soundscapes conjuring up images of a dystopian future. Perhaps the best known, Arca, has been championed by the likes of Bjork (working with her on album Vulnicura) whilst Oneohtrix Point Never has been collaborating with FKA Twigs (soundtracking her recent Nike film).

Many of the artists (MESH, TCF, Amnesia Scanner, Lotic, Fatima Al Qadiri, Lorenzo Senni, Rashad Becker and Soda Plains) have succumbed to the gravitational pull of electronic music’s high temple, Berlin, with Elysia Crampton, Rabit, Oneohtrix Point Never and Holly Herndon (USA) and newcomer Joshua Sabin (Scotland) rounding off the list.
