Model, TV presenter, fitness lover and foodie, Rachael Finch, knows the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, and after the indulgences that come with the festive season, she’s encouraging Australians of all ages to get in top shape with her ‘100% Dribbilicious’ workout and mouth-watering summer stonefruit recipes.
Host of Channel Seven’s Great Outdoors, former Miss Universe Australia, Celebrity MasterChef runner up and new face of Australian Summer Stonefruit is inspiring people across the nation to start the year on the right foot and commit to exercising regularly and eating plenty of fresh local produce, particularly succulent peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots while they’re at their dribbilicious peak season best.
“It’s always exciting visiting my family in Townsville during summer because ever since I was young, we’ve always had a big bowl of stonefruit on the kitchen table. It’s part of our Aussie culture.
“On really hot days, I love getting stuck into peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots or eating them with some frozen yoghurt. They’re packed full of vitamins, low in calories and can be enjoyed in so many different ways.
“I love cooking with homegrown stonefruit. They go great in salads, barbeques, cereals, smoothies or fruit salads. They’re also perfect fresh as a mid-morning or afternoon snack,” Rachael said.
Stonefruit is rich in vitamins A, C and E and a great source of dietary fibre and potassium. They’re also delicious, juicy and sweet, and it’s all thanks to our hardworking farmers who work around the clock to deliver the world’s best produce bursting with flavour right on our very own doorstep.
“Food has always been a big part of my life. Some of my family operates fruit and vegetable farms in North Queensland so supporting our local farmers is really important to me,” she said.
Rachael said summer is such a great time of the year. Not only do we have access to fresh, local stonefruit, it’s also the time to take advantage of our country’s beautiful warm weather, and get outdoors and active.
“There are so many activities you can do to stay in shape during summer. You can go to the pool for a swim, run along the beach or head to the park with your mates to play cricket, soccer or footy. If sport isn’t your thing, you can follow my five exercises to give you a full body workout in just 20 minutes. Best of all, you don’t need equipment or to pay expensive gym fees,” she said.
“When I’m training regularly and eating well, I feel confident, happy and full of energy. I’ve always believed beauty comes from within so if you’re giving your body the goodness it deserves, it will show on the outside. If you want to stay in shape this summer, remember to eat well and keep moving,” Rachael said.
‘100% Dribbilicious’ peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots are available from your local supermarket or green-grocer. Around 800 growers in 26 regions spread around the country produce more than 100,000 tonnes of nectarines, plums, apricots and peaches from October to April each year.
The season starts in sub-tropical Queensland and production kicks in down-country as the sun heads south for summer. The northern areas of Western Australia and New South Wales spring into action before Victoria and South Australia come on-stream, rounded off by Tasmanian harvests from mid- January.
