Award-winning Pulse has announced the signing of Kojaque to its growing roster of directors. This partnership follows the release of 'A Cowboy Song'— the second chapter in a striking visual trilogy for fellow Irish artist Kean Kavanagh.
Hailing from Cabra, Dublin, Kevin Smith — known professionally as Kojaque — is one of the most exciting and original artists of today, with his true DIY force driving his career as a renowned rapper as well as filmmaker. Kojaque has worn both hats throughout his career, directing the majority of his own music videos, notably, Town’s Dead which picked up five Shark Awards, including Best Direction and Best Music Video, and most recently Eastside and The Ballad Of Jackie Dandelion.
With years of filmmaking under his belt, Kojaque has crafted a bold signature style, storytelling that blends raw honesty with sharp wit, firmly establishing himself as a rising force and a Director to watch.
Kojaque’s recent trilogy for Kean Kavanagh marks this bold leap in his filmmaking journey. The Whistle, A Cowboy Song (out now) and Father Browns (soon to be released) tell the story of Pa 'The Hips' Campion, a down-on-his-luck Elvis impersonator and Portlaoise kit man clinging to moments of small-town glory. Kojaque blends grit, humour and melancholy, to create a video that is a tender portrait of fading fame, obsession, and longing.
Kojaque shared, “I'm buzzing to be joining Pulse. I know their work pushes boundaries and that's what I love doing in my work. Whether it's music, film, or art, I’m always chasing honest stories that resonate. Teaming up with a crew that backs that vision is exactly where I want to be.”
Rik Green, global head of music videos at Pulse Films, added, “I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome Kojaque to Pulse. His sharp visual wit and instinctive storytelling set him apart — it’s rare to come across such a distinctive voice. He’s a phenomenal artist, in every sense of the word, and we’re genuinely excited to be part of his continued evolution as a director."
