Born and based in the UK, Thomas Ormonde is an inventive and versatile director, who sees the creative potential in everything. He has an extremely distinct style, rooted in his ability to take inherently relatable moments, and spin them into quirky story worlds with unknowing eccentric characters.
Absurd and playful, his work is as eye-catching as it is unforgettable. His unique vision shines through in his diverse, colourful work with a wide range of clients such as Samsung, Audible, and Adidas.
“We are thrilled to welcome Thomas and his one-of-a-kind comedic vision to Merchant and the Canadian market. We were drawn to his ability to make universal experiences feel unique and extraordinary.” said Ian Webb, EP at Merchant.
LBB sat down with Thomas to find out more.
Thomas> I’m a huge admirer of the talent and work that comes out of Canada, and therefore I’ve been keen on working in the Canadian market for some time. Via a good friend, shout out to Leah Joyce at Anonymous, I was introduced to the legend that is Tim Godsall who gave me a solid lowdown of all things Merchant and Canada. From that conversation I was then looped in with Merchant EP Ian Webb and the gang, and it became quickly apparent we were on the same page - to craft great work with good people.
Thomas> My career has stretched longer than one might think (10+ years). I started out as an animator and in-house director at agency Fallon London. After leaving and directing in multiple capacities over a number of years, it wasn’t until I joined London based production company MindsEye three years ago, where I was given the support I needed to hone in on my specific comedic tone of voice and strengthen my reel to where it is today.
Thomas> I’ve also recently become represented in the US by ProdCo, Ian Pons Jewell and Zico Judge’s new production company. Having already bagged our first job together for Samsung, and with the buzz within the company with the roster and talented team backing us up, it’s hard to not be excited for what next year will bring. With this and a new Canadian chapter with Merchant I can’t wait for 2024!
