After a busy 2018 of team expansion and launching its first office in Berlin with executive producer of music Ben Esser at the helm, music and sound agency Pitch & Sync now welcomes Denise Valk as the newest member of the family in Amsterdam.
In the 13 years since launching, Pitch & Sync has worked consistently on global campaigns providing music searches, composition, sound design, audio branding and licensing services for many of the world’s biggest brands as well as smaller innovative start-ups.
In her new Pitch & Sync role, Denise will be channelling her musical passion and experience as a producer for No Dutch No Glory to continue the exciting and innovative work that Pitch & Sync have become known for, as they remain intent in the pursuit of new and exciting collaborations.
Q> So what's your musical story?
I have always loved music. From the moment I bought my first CD, which was Uncle John from Jamaica by The Vengaboys.
I started buying more and more CDs, listening to various artists (a bit better than The Vengaboys!). I grew up with music by Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, thanks to my parents, so I’m very grateful for that. It’s a good base to start your music taste in my opinion.
I love to sing, even though the shower is probably the only one that really digs it! I started to hang out with a lot of Dutch musicians who could actually write and make music, and now all of the sudden I’m working at this great music and sound agency. I could not be happier!
Q> Tell us a bit about your history, do you see it helping with your role at Pitch & Sync?
From a young age, I have been heavily involved in the world of fashion, having worked as a model. After 10 years of travelling and meeting a lot of people, I decided to quit modelling and start working as a producer in the film industry. Throughout these years, the network I have gained and experience is very relevant for Pitch & Sync and together we can aim for the sky.
Q> Why did you want to get on board with Pitch & Sync?
Alex Lavery [P&S co-founder] hunted me down for a year to get me on board. And it worked. I think this persistence shows that if Pitch & Sync want something or somebody, they will achieve it. And that’s something I really like. Plus they make awesome shit.
Q> How are you feeling about the new role and how do you see Pitch & Sync impacting the Dutch market?
I’m super excited! There are a lot of good Dutch agencies and production companies, my goal is to organise music related events, attend lots of awesome gigs and be at the top of their minds. With the relationships Pitch & Sync have built over the last 13 years with great artists, composers, musicians and my hunger for creative projects, our chances to take a bite of the Dutch market is looking good!
Q> What are you listening to right now that we should know about?
I’m listening to Masego right now. I saw him a couple of weeks ago in Paradiso, Amsterdam. I think he is awesome and as he says himself 'I DO EVERYTHING'. He can play practically every instrument and I find that very cool.
Q> What’s been your favourite recent piece of work from Pitch & Sync?
That will be G-Star. I just looove The Blaze’s track.
P&S director & co-founder Alex Lavery comments on the appointment: "Our first P&S job ever was for Motorola out of Amsterdam, hence much of our network in the business has stemmed from relationships in this beloved cycling capital of the world. Our best work to date continues to come from Amsterdam so it makes sense to revitalise our presence with a new Dutch native member of the team. Denise is a force of nature, we’re excited to see where her hurricane strength winds will take us furthering our Dutch business endeavours."
