Equal rights for all are at the forefront of everyone’s mind since the women’s marches at the weekend and the inauguration of President Trump.
NERD's Animation Director/illustrator Peque Varela’s short film about growing up in the 70’s depicts a life of gender inequality and struggling with her own identity. The film has been awarded 15 international prizes including Sundance and Clermont-Ferrand.
The short film is still in demand today from LGBT festivals worldwide as well as many education institutions. More recently “1977” will be showcased at MARCO (Museum of Contemporary Art, Vigo) from 27th January to 11th June as part of the feminist art exhibition and will also be screened at the museum Reina Sofia in Madrid until March, as part of a program called Museocinema focusing on women, body, gender & identity.
As Peque says "Despite finishing the film over 7 years ago, the themes throughout are prevalent today more than ever".
