New work from Emotive sees Optus create a custom-built remote-control race activation at Bathurst's track

To demonstrate the power and speed of the Optus 5G network, Optus has partnered with Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Bathurst winning driver and current fastest lap record holder, Chaz Mostert.

Harvey Wright, head of 5G at Optus said: “We are incredibly excited about our opportunity to showcase the future potential of Optus 5G through our new partnership with WAU.”

Lucio Ribeiro, associate director of innovation Optus said: “This exciting showcase demonstrated how 5G will be a critical enabler for other technologies like artificial intelligence, IoT, VR and AR.  Optus is looking to actively partner with the local start-up community, agencies and publishers involved with these technologies.”

Alongside a 15” TVC featuring Bathurst winner Chaz Mostert, Optus created a custom-built remote-control race activation at Bathurst.

The activation combined the technology of Amazon Web Services with the ultra-reliable low latency, high response, and high-bandwidth of Optus 5G to give racing enthusiasts a chance to compete with each other over five laps via remote control with a twist – the drivers couldn't see their cars.

Jim McGorty, brand activations director said: “Every part of the race relied on the speed of 5G. From accelerating, to steering, and even the driver’s view of the track. Everything was connected in real time. We had drivers racing real time from 200kms away at an Optus store in the centre of Sydney and we had hundreds of customers driving in location in Bathurst.”
