OpenAI has debuted its first TV commercial, with its star product – the AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT – on the biggest stage for advertising: the Super Bowl. The 60-second ad invites everyday people – not just tech-savvy early adopters – to explore what new possibilities AI can open up in their lives.
Accenture Song, the world’s largest tech-powered creative group, behind previous Super Bowl stand-out ads such as the Coinbase bouncing QR-code, partnered with OpenAI in the conception and creation of its Super Bowl debut.
Using a pointillism-inspired animation, a core part of OpenAI’s brand identity system and the ChatGPT interface, the film transforms abstract dots into moving iconography to illustrate the various discovery milestones in human progress until now – with AI and the Intelligence Age. The film visually explores the history of human ingenuity and curiosity through the graphic form of ‘The Point’ (the black dot you encounter when using their products).
Human creative professionals were behind the ad and its execution, with OpenAI’s video product Sora used as a brainstorming and exploration tool. The process – and partnership between OpenAI and Song – demonstrates our shared vision of elevating human potential and enhancing creativity through technology.
