One piece of wisdom that has always resonated with me is to work hard, be kind, and believe in myself. As I’ve grown older and gained more perspective, this simple truth remains a guiding principle in my life.

I learned this valuable lesson during my time as an account director in 2005, when I worked with both a multinational consumer goods brand and a biopharma company. I was surrounded by talented individuals who were deeply committed to their careers, which was both inspiring and intimidating, especially as I struggled with self-belief.

Fortunately, the CEO recognised my potential and nominated me for the WPP Rising Star Female coaching program. This initiative revitalised my confidence and helped me navigate the challenges I was facing at that time.

During that challenging time in my career, I found myself doubting my instincts about what needed to change in my environment. I tried to push aside my inner voice until, in one coaching session, a fellow participant said, “I believe in me.” In that moment, I not only heard the words but truly grasped their meaning.

Inspired by that affirmation, I took immediate action. I approached my Managing Director to discuss necessary changes and potential growth opportunities. Once I voiced my concerns, my needs were addressed. It became clear that all I needed was to believe in myself and have the support of a leader.

It wasn’t one person or one moment that inspired this, but rather qualities and character traits I saw in all the strong female leaders I had the privilege of meeting along the way.

Hearing all their stories of who they are; their struggles, their perspectives, and how through grit, determination and sheer hard work they were breaking through those glass ceilings.

Also, a big shout out to my mum for also being one of those single mothers, who paused her career to raise me and brother and did what she could to ensure we understood the importance of working hard for what we want.

I’m someone who is constantly learning. Each of these experiences has shaped my perspective on what I want and where I’m headed. They’ve given me the permission to explore, experiment, and discover what truly resonates with me.

To this day, believing in myself remains a strong anchor, motivating me to work hard for what I want in both my life and career. It’s simple yet grounding advice that has become a core personal value.

Sometimes, people aren’t ready to put in the effort or fully understand advice until they’re prepared. There’s no judgement—just do your best, whatever that means for you. You define your "best," so believe in yourself; and go for it!
