Motion Sickness Resurfaces After Facelift.

A decade that has seen them rise from Dunedin to Auckland, now bringing onboard big accounts and putting out some unconventional work in the process

The release of the new Motion Sickness website, motionsickness.co.nz, and brand positioning coincides with their tenth year in the industry.

While focusing on the work had brought about the desired results - the need to reflect on their own brand was becoming increasingly important.

“Our brand has always done the job it needed to, but we’d never given it the attention that we feel an agency website deserves. In a way, it’s like ‘how a builder’s house is never finished’ - at least ours finally has its roof on” Sam Stuchbury ECD, founder.

“Being our own client, working on our own identity was weird. We’re not sure if we were the best or worst client we’ve ever had, but we are really pleased how it turned out,” Alex McMannus, GM.

Recent growth in both size and reputation motivated a revamp of their own digital presence and brand positioning. A chance to better reflect how the agency sees themselves in 2023.

Just a few clicks through the refreshed website, and it’s immediately apparent that they’re an agency attempting to make a first impression as unique as the work they’ve become known for.

The attempt is a successful one.

Sam explained, “Interactivity was a must, we wanted our site to be engaging and smile-inducing. The most rewarding thing has been presenting the body of work we’ve built up over the past few years. Go have a look, or at least stack some rocks.”

The task of trying to encapsulate the personality of the agency and the direction of a business, with a well defined reputation, was always going to be a daunting one.

Alex, “If your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room - we’d want that to be: ‘They do good work. We should hire them’. We’ve landed in a place that felt slick and minimal. It’s a little bit fashion, a little bit agency, and a little bit different.”

The agency has ambitious plans over the next year to continue their momentum, building on both their body of work and current offerings.

“You can see our new site right where the old one used to be - a massive thank you to Grafik for building this beauty and striving for great,” said Sam.
