We’ve been looking to find someone like Yousef for some time now. It’s a hard style of directing to fill, and trying to find the right person that can deliver absurd comedy blended with visual effects hasn’t been easy. It’s also very important for us that our directors are creatively and culturally the right fit for Motherland. So we got very excited when we came across Yousef. We were really impressed with his work and felt he would be a great fit for the Irish Market and the types of scripts we see here. So we are delighted to announce that we are now representing Yousef in Ireland.
Based in Manchester Yousef is an award-winning director celebrated for his unique ability to blend comedy, magical realism, and a touch of the absurd. Known for creating “wonderfully weird” commercials, promos and music videos, his work pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling, fusing surreal elements with everyday life in a way that feels fantastical but never over the top. Yousef has garnered industry-wide recognition for his distinct style. His standout campaign for BBC iPlayer, described as “uniquely odd,” received widespread acclaim, while his hallucinatory promo for Piero Pirupa’s "Braindead" won a Wood Pencil for Music Video: Concept at the 2021 D&AD Awards, and was shortlisted at the Young Director’s Award and UKMVAs.
Yousef said, "I’m absolutely buzzing to join the brilliant team at Motherland and see how much fun and silliness we can bring to life”
Yousef’s experimental edge extends to commercial work, with his Old Spice “Curls Are Cool” spot winning a 2022 Webby Award for Video. Beyond the screen, Yousef is also a skilled designer and art director, having crafted visuals for major-label album campaigns for artists like SG Lewis, Michael Kiwanuka, Dizzee Rascal, and Gregory Porter.
