MIK STUDIO, in association with Smoketale Films, is thrilled to unveil STEEL MOTHER, a ground-breaking cinematic journey that fuses pulse-pounding action with thought-provoking sci-fi themes.
The journey began with the short film, which has already been accepted into its first festivals, generating anticipation and intrigue among audiences. The short film stars Laura Lakshmi, Shameer Birges, and Masha Basman, whose performances bring depth and intensity to the narrative. A trailer for the short film is now available, offering a glimpse into the intense world and gripping story that lies ahead. This compelling short serves as a tantalising prelude to the feature-length version, slated to begin production next year.
Written by Jennifer van Gessel, with story contributions by Ennio de Masi, Nik Kacevski, and van Gessel, the feature builds on the foundation laid by the short film while introducing a richer, more complex narrative. Set in a shadowy and unforgiving world, STEEL MOTHER follows Olivia, a young mother with a haunting past and a secret that could change everything. As she fights to protect her daughter, Olivia is forced to confront the dangerous forces pursuing her and the extraordinary abilities she is only beginning to understand. Packed with suspense, action, and emotional depth, the story promises twists and revelations that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
This collaboration with MIK STUDIO underscores the studio’s commitment to bold storytelling and cinematic excellence. Spearheading the production at MIK are producers Ty Linegar and Lauren Cooper, who bring their passion and expertise to this ambitious project. MIK recently brought to life the critically acclaimed film The Room Below, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, showcasing their prowess in producing gripping narratives with universal appeal. Now, with STEEL MOTHER, they continue to push the boundaries of genre filmmaking.
Director Nik Kacevski — whose creative vision helmed the short film and will guide the feature — has crafted a visually striking and emotionally resonant experience. “STEEL MOTHER will be a cinematic spectacle that balances high-octane action with heart and soul,” Nik said. “We’re crafting a deeply personal story about resilience and identity, set against a thrilling, adrenaline-fuelled backdrop."
With the feature script completed and production set to commence next year, STEEL MOTHER is poised to capture the hearts of action and sci-fi enthusiasts alike. Audiences can expect a cinematic experience that is as intellectually stimulating as it is visually exhilarating.
