TEMPLE TRIO FOR ORGAN from John Ashton Thomas is released today Thursday 17th June.
The beautifully composed piece was created during the first lockdown in May 2020. Consisting of five minutes of mesmerising music, Temple Trio takes you on an incredible journey of highs and lows, reflecting those experienced during the lockdown.
John was inspired by events of the past year when writing the piece: "When I created this piece, much like many of the isolated musicians worldwide, I took to using technology to continue feeling connected. However, whilst other musicians were using split screen videos (like Zoom) to collaborate, I had this idea of writing a piece for three organs which could be visually viewed as a split-screen video, but all the musicians would be the same person, playing the same instrument"
John is a composer who has contributed to the film music world for decades. He has orchestrated over 160 feature film scores including Oscar-winning soundtracks for Black Panther, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Captain Marvel. As a conductor, he has worked with many artists and orchestras including Diana Ross, Michael Bublé and various BBC Symphony Orchestras. In the studio he has conducted for composers such as James Newton Howard, Thomas Newman and Stephen Warbeck.
John’s compositions have been performed at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall (including at the Proms in 2018), the South Bank Centre, the Barbican, the ICA, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glastonbury Festival and Temple Church, London.
Temple Trio will make its live debut on Monday 28 June at a show curated by John himself. John’s relationship with Temple Church spans over many years, and he is delighted to be returning to one of his favourite venues for his first live concert in 18 months. The concert, which was originally scheduled for November 2020, will include a number of premieres alongside Temple Trio which was composed for organist Roger Sayer.
