Poo at Big Blue shares the tops tips for taking your production to Thailand

Poo is Bangkok born- in a very academic family among writers, researchers and scientists.

Poo entered economics school and was meant to be an analysis expert. then found out about film making and life changed forever.

Poo lived in Portland Oregon for over six years, and came back to be with Big Blue.

Working in a film business leading Poo to an opportunity to encounter new problems every single time a brief is received.

Poo learns something new everyday. Most of the time, Poo’s interests and experience help to understand certain projects deeper.

LBB> How would you pitch Thailand to any production companies looking to shoot in your region?

Poo> Thailand offers a vibrant tapestry for film productions. With stunning landscapes, from lush jungles to pristine beaches, it provides a diverse range of settings.

A rich cultural heritage and modern urban scenes add versatility. Plus, cost-effective production services, quality equipment, and experienced crew make Thailand an appealing choice for your next film project.

Up-to-date shooting equipment, plus quality studio for the set up if needed in BKK. One-stop shooting.

Plus, we can offer a wide range of ethnicities of talents.

Thailand has been considered as the hub of film production, in terms of crew and equipment, in the region.

When shooting with us, apart from professionalism, you will exclusively get the sense of Thainess with our unique characteristics, which you could not find anywhere else. Being positively calm, polite and respectful to other people are the components to enhance the healthy and enjoyable shoot.

LBB> What are the main qualities of your region?

Poo>

- A variety of unique landscapes that can perfectly complete your film as desired.

- High competition in the region exceeds the top-notch performance of crew.

- Ability to acquire all the requirements as briefed.

- Can shoot all year long. Longer daylight. 12 hours daylight all day long.

LBB> What would you say are the top locations in Thailand?

Poo> I would say we can provide a wide range of natural locations – first in the rank would be the beaches. Thailand beaches are well-known for their finely white sand, clear sea water, and the interesting shape of coconut trees with the bright sun.

Waterfalls surrounded by lush tropical plants, serene tea and rice fields, and majestic mountains stand out as prime filming locations in Thailand.

Back into the city, you can see the urban skyscrapers standing next to the very local community with street food vendors. Their contrast can amazingly harmonise Bangkok.

Fresh market/ riverside views can also be a perfect backdrop. The settings allow you to set up and bring your script to life.

LBB> What location would you say is most popular?

Poo> The islands, rainforest, mountains and building rooftops.

LBB> Which location would you describe as the biggest attribute to local production?

Poo> Nice and pristine beaches with the coconut trees and heat of the sun make it perfect.

LBB> Explain the climate and the best/worst times to shoot in Thailand?

Poo> Thailand can best be described as tropical for the majority of the country during most of the year. We have 12 hours of daylight all year round.

The area of Thailand north of Bangkok has a climate determined by three seasons (so-called winter, summer, and rainy) while the southern peninsular region of Thailand has only two (rainy and summer). For the beaches, April to September are the perfect months for the east coast. November to April are so great for shooting on the west coast.

Usually when it rains, it will last a maximum 1-2 hours and then we can come back to shoot.

In summary, no worst time to shoot, only a few hiccups during the rainy season.

LBB> What specific work permits/Visas are required to shoot in Thailand?

Poo> Big Blue will manage to apply for the permit to shoot and to work (it will be done once you arrive in Thailand) through the government supporting unit, called Thailand film office.

They provide one-stop service in obtaining necessary permits and approvals from all authorities. It also serves as the central hub for information and assistance for both local and international filmmakers.

LBB> How is the infrastructure in Thailand for supporting large productions?

Poo> Thailand’s got the whole package for big film productions – top-notch studios, skilled crew, and many equipment rental companies offering all the up-to-date gear to meet all your needs. Our tabletop teams also master their work with international experiences.

As for casting, we have a wide range of ethnicities that can fit your script.

Plus, the government’s got your back with filmmaker-friendly policies, i.e. incentives.

Smooth sailing for your movie!

LBB> What have been your biggest/most successful production in Thailand to date?

Poo> The Beach, 007 The Man with the Golden Gun, The Hangover Part II and Fast and Furious9.

LBB> As an outsider, what would you say are the biggest Dos and Don’ts in the region?

Poo> Let’s talk about Thailand

Do – Get elephant pants. Be respectful to the religious places. Try durian and fried insects!

Don’t – Don’t take a taxi without a metre. Don’t smoke freely in the public area (5,000THB fine). Don’t drink tap water. Don't touch any random people’s heads. Don’t point with your foot.

LBB> What would be your number one tip to any coming to Thailand to shoot a campaign/film?

Poo> Don’t forget to take more days off after you finish your project, to explore more, chill by the beach and get yourself prepared to gain weight!

LBB> Where would you suggest a foreign production stay while they are in Thailand?

Poo> Feel free to ask for more details of each:

Bangkok – Mandarin Oriental, The Siam, Sukhothai and Siam Kempinski

Phuket – Keemala, Amanpuri and V Villas Phuket

Krabi – The Tubkak Krabi Boutique Resort, Layana Resort & Spa and Banyan Tree Krabi

Chiang Mai – Four seasons Chiang Mai, Ratchamanka, Raya Heritage and Anantara Chiangmai

LBB> Where are the best bars/restaurants? Any hidden gems you could suggest?

Poo> I will need pages for this.

Bars: Thep bar, BKK Social club, Alone Together, Teens of Thailand, Wall of Flowers, De Commune, Fu John

Restaurants: Jay Fai, Jay Oh, Veganerie, Sa Nguan Sri, street food along China Town

LBB> Any other tourist recommendations?

Poo> Chatuchak, night market, Muaythai fight, boat ride in Chaopraya river, floating market, fruit market, ferry wheels at Asiatique, Thai massage, wholesale and local brands shopping, local walking street, local festivals, ride Tuk Tuk & motorcycle taxis as an experience, nearby beaches or island for a few nights, waterfalls and lake, feeding monkeys at the old town, running in the park with giant lizards and visit craftsmanship stores.
