Agencies such as BBDO New York and those under the Publicis Groupe umbrella enjoy reel of winners while the local industry’s PR and communications folk gather

After more than two years of Zoom calls and closed borders, last week Little Black Book was in New York to meet with old friends and new in the flesh.

A major focus of the trip was The Immortal Awards’ in-house showcase tour, with screenings taking place at agencies including BBDO New York, and those under the Publicis Groupe umbrella. It was also an opportunity to present R/GA with its Immortal Award statue, which it won for ‘SuperbOwl’, its extremely non-traditional take on a Super Bowl ad for Reddit.

LBB founder and CEO Matt Cooper with R/GA global chief creative officer Tiffany Rolfe

The aim of the showcase tour is to inspire creatives across the globe with free in-house screenings of the global 2021 Immortal Awards winners for creative companies around the world. With just four Immortal winners and a further six Commendations, the reel of work is refreshingly short and packed full of the best international work from last year. If you’d like the Immortal Awards to visit your team, let us know by contacting awards director Paul Monan at paulm@lbbonline.com.

The week culminated with a Stateside edition of Little Black Book’s famous ‘Hacks & Flacks’ event, which had previously taken place during Cannes Lions. The event serves as an opportunity for advertising industry PR and communications representatives to meet and have dinner with their counterparts from other agencies, production and post production companies.

“The event is also a way of us saying thank you to a group of people without whom LBB wouldn't be what it is today,” says Addison Capper, Americas editor at Little Black Book. “Since the start of the pandemic and the now general acceptance to hop on video calls, I actually feel that many relationships are stronger than before when it was easier to hop on a plane to wherever in the world. That said, it was unbeatable meeting a good crop of friends and partners in real life, and good fun having a bit of food and a few drinks to boot.”

Little Black Book founder and CEO Matt Cooper was also in town meeting and outlining plans for the company’s future with global business leaders from agencies such Leo Burnett, DDB, McCann, FCB, Havas, R/GA and Publicis Groupe. “Being back in meetings with actual people in New York was amazing,” he says. “We travelled to show The Immortal Awards reel at agencies and hand out a statue or two, which was amazing, and our Hacks and Flacks events are always too much fun.

“We also travelled to meet global network c-suite folk to tell them where LBB is now, but more importantly where it’s going. LBB is a platform - not just a publication - and there are three big new evolutions that will see people using us differently. We also wanted to talk about our new global plans for offices. It was an incredible trip and just so great to see people again.”
