Pulse Films produces new music Video with director Hector Dockrill at the helm

Iconic singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has dropped heart-wrenching and emotional visuals for his brand-new single ‘Pointless’.  The music video is written and directed by Hector Dockrill and produced by Pulse Films.

The narrative for the video captures a mother-son relationship with beautiful and heart-breaking intimacy. The storytelling pans several years with timely and relatable themes running throughout of a single mother who strives, seemingly against all odds to give her son the life she wished she could have had.

Opening with a Christmas scene, we see lead actress BAFTA winner Niamh Algar (The Virtues, Raised by Wolves) lovingly dancing with and hugging her son on Christmas day before carrying up to bed. With mixed dialogue throughout, we both hear and see glimpses into the ups and downs of their daily lives over the years including financial hardship and the tightrope of being a working single parent. Niamh’s on-screen teenage/ adult son is played by Charley Palmer-Rothwell (Dunkirk, Legend).

In keeping with the theme of family, Laura Dockrill – Hector’s sister, wrote the script, making this a family affair both on and off screen.

Director, Hector Dockrill said: “Lewis had a beautiful idea that focused on the mother/son bond, and how responsibility shifts as you grow older. Niamh Algar is a phenomenal talent and we’re already chomping at the bit to work together again. With only a week’s prep, she managed to immerse herself into the role and completely make it her own. This is definitely a special film that everybody can connect with – a shout out to every mother.”

Nnena Nwakodo, executive producer for Pulse Films commented: “Hector has smashed it. He absolutely nailed the tone, something that was a constant balancing act from the jump. With one week of pre-production I'm super proud of our producer, Joseph Goldman, to have brought together an absolute dream team. The performances in this video are incredible - as soon as I saw Niamh on the monitor, I knew we had an exceptional film. Such a lovely way to round off the year.”

This is prolific end to the year for the Pulse Films director, Hector Dockrill. His credits in 2022 include, the Chase & Status’ music video and short film ‘When It Rains’ starring actor Jack McCullen. Feature documentary Post Malone: Runaway which launched internationally on Amazon Freevee, and a host of commercials for top brands including Sports Direct, cycling brand Rapha, and Beats by Dre.
