Julie Matheny joins Mother in London as a creative director after a stint working at Away (home of the perfect suitcase) where she helped build the in-house creative team. Before Away, she was at Droga5 in New York, where she was behind a number of high profile campaigns including multi-award-winning ones for Mailchimp and the New York Times.
Julie grew up in New Jersey, which makes perfect sense to everyone she’s ever worked with. She got her BA in English Lit at The College of William & Mary, her Masters in Advertising at VCU Brandcenter, and has spent the rest of her adult life wishing she paid more attention at both of those places. She's worked at/on a wide variety of agencies and clients, from Mailchimp to The New York Times, from Target to Dr. Pepper, from Google and Facebook to Conoco Gas.
Mother welcoming Julie reunites her with Felix Richter, the Mother London chief creative officer. On her appointment Felix said: “I was very pleased that we managed to persuade Julie to travel over the Atlantic and join us. She brings a degree of originality and integrity to her work that is always in demand, but often hard to find. We’re all very much looking forward to seeing what we can create together.”
Julie Matheny, creative director at Mother London added: “It felt like the right time for me to return to an agency - the perfect venn diagram of my personal ambition to work in London, the joy of getting to work with Felix again, and then getting to do both of those things in an environment as lovely and creative as Mother.”
If you’re into trophies, Julie has won various industry awards, including Cannes Lions (2 Grand Prix), One Show Pencils, Clios, Effies, D&ADs, but she never properly took an inventory of them because that stuff makes her uncomfortable.
