International creatives Jeff Goodby and Kim Pick to join a stellar line-up of speakers, including Orchard NY CCO David Kolbusz, headlining Australia’s Advertising Festival of Creativity

AWARD has today announced that two of the world’s most pre-eminent advertising creatives, Jeff Goodby and Kim Pick will join a stellar line-up of speakers in headlining This Way Up: Australia’s Advertising Festival of Creativity in Sydney next month.

Goodby, internationally revered adman and co-chairman of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners San Francisco, will entertain with his mad yet lateral insights as part of a lively keynote ‘Dude, where’s my job? How to be indispensable in the times of AI'.

While Pick, group executive creative director, VMLY&R New Zealand and AWARD School Class of ‘88, will share the secrets to a career spanning more than three decades and five continents running creative for some of the world’s biggest brands.

AWARD chair Cam Blackley said: “To have some of the most outstanding minds in the global ad industry fly in for the second instalment of This Way Up is huge for the creative community.

“We are extremely fortunate and grateful to be able to tap up famous industry names to give their unique perspective on how to navigate an industry that is rapidly changing, as part of a series of great sessions that’ll teach you how to break rules, change minds and create your life’s best work.”

This Way Up’s schedule, including a keynote from David Kolbusz, acclaimed CCO, Orchard (New York), has been released today, celebrating the best in creative thinking via interactive talks, panel sessions, award announcements, workshops, industry gatherings and more at the Museum of Contemporary Art from August 15-17.

Panel events and speaker sessions include:
  • ‘This Way In and Out’: Ad-execs-turned-entrepreneurs Annabel and Lucy Hay, co-founders, CLUTCH Glue, and Emily Perrett, Founder and CEO, Flavedo & Albedo, will talk side hustles that got out of hand and careers that crossed boundaries.
  • Indigenous collaboration: Cox Inall Ridgeway GM Yatu Widders Hunt will host a panel of Indigenous creative collaborators as part of a First Nations discussion that will unlock the secrets to meaningful collaboration through art, culture, fashion and food.
  • The Work Behind The Work: Ogilvy Australia executive creative director Bridget Jung will host creatives and strategists from The Monkeys and CHEP Network in going behind the scenes of two of 2023’s Cannes Lions Grand Prix-winning campaigns: ‘First Digital Nation’ for The Government of Tuvalu and Samsung’s ‘Flipvertising.’
  • ‘Hold my beer: How authentic storytelling can maybe, just maybe keep your stupidest ideas alive’: Nathan Lennon, co-founder, Hawkes Brewing Co, will share how imagination and storytelling led to the establishment of his successful beer business - and compelled audiences to embrace even the most unconventional ideas.
Additional sessions covering craft, diversity and more will be announced in coming weeks, with key events including AWARD School’s 40th Celebration and The Gold Pencil Award Party giving the industry cause to celebrate outstanding creative talent past and present.

Individual and three-day speaker passes are on sale now. Check out the schedule, speakers, and get your tickets at thiswayup.com.au.
