TBWA\Chiat\Day New York and Jameson Irish Whiskey, will introduce the latest television installment of their highly successful “Tall Tales” campaign, “Iron Horse.”
Set in the early 1800s, this spot continues the saga of our brand founder, John Jameson, and his quest to protect is beloved whiskey. In the latest commercial, he comes face-to-face with his fiercest adversary yet – modern technology. Jameson has to think on his feet faster than ever before in this action-packed tale.
TBWA partnered with director John Hillcoat and Skunk on the new spot. Hillcoat is best known for his work on feature films such as Lawless and The Road and brought a unique perspective to the storytelling of “Iron Horse,” seamlessly bringing together the high-speed drama of an action movie and authenticity of a period film.
“We base all of our commercials on a kernel of truth from the life and time of John Jameson that we can build from... A story about John Jameson’s encounter with the newly invented steam engine felt like a natural continuation to the campaign,” said Alisa Wixom, Creative Director at TBWA.
The TV commercial is accompanied by three more 18th c. inspired Oil Paintings running in OOH, depicting John Jameson going to great lengths to protect, share and celebrate his whiskey, going so far as to silence one of history’s greatest inventors after a just a taste.
The “Tall Tales” campaign derives much of its success by celebrating the brand’s heritage; using the art of Irish storytelling to convey the passion of our founder that has helped make the brand what it is today. As such, the brand has been able to attract and keep consumers with the brand over the last decade, with awareness and consideration at all time highs and its advocate base stronger than ever.
“Jameson is incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing advocacy amongst consumers and the trade and highly unique and engaging advertising like this helps contribute to this. The prior Jameson TV ads have been extremely successful and award winning but this could very well be the best one yet,” commented Wayne Hartunian, Vice President, Whiskies and Cognac at Pernod Ricard USA.
