Sky Cinema today reveals its 2024 Christmas campaign, 'The Little Girl,' which celebrates the joy, nostalgia and timeless appeal of festive films. The new advert follows a young girl who finds inspiration - and a little courage – in the friendship of Christmas movies to ask a boy to the cinema. The joyful campaign runs across two TV adverts which bring to life iconic festive movie moments to celebrate the emotive, nostalgic and uplifting power of film during the holiday season. Building on the brand’s new platform 'Movies Make Christmas', the spots form part of a wider integrated campaign which rolls out nationally this week.
The first spot tells the story of a girl inspired by classic Christmas films such as Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life, Wonka and The Holiday. Ultimately, encouraged by classic movie moments, she plucks up the courage to invite a friend to the cinema using her two free Vue Cinema tickets. The second spot focuses on highlighting even more of the movies available via Sky Cinema, bringing together both classic festive favourites and the latest blockbuster releases in a fast-moving ad packed with iconic scenes, beloved characters and quotable lines.
This year’s advert builds on the success and appeal of Sky Cinema’s 2023 Christmas campaign, which used engaging clips of iconic moments in movies available to Sky customers, cut to an emotive much-loved festive track. The advert was subsequently included in System 1’s top ten Christmas adverts with a 5.8 star score, as well as driving significant uplift in brand consideration and demand for Sky. To continue the celebration of the magic of the movies for 2024, Sky has created a new platform “Movies Make Christmas” for its users. As well as adding a narrative story arc, this year’s heart-warming and humorous advert highlights Sky Cinema’s new promotional partnership with Vue, which gives Sky customers even more value for money with two free cinema tickets during the holiday period.
The 2024 campaign is supported by large scale activity launching from 22 November, across OOH and TV across the UK, in addition to radio digital and social. The creative is crafted and produced by Sky’s own in-house agency, Sky Creative, in partnership with Rapport. The media is being handled by Essence Mediacom. Sky has also engaged the London family for a bespoke influencer campaign which launched today and saw the audience favourite family sharing the advert exclusively across their social media channels.
Jamie Schwartz, director of movies marketing, Sky and Now, commented, “Movies are an integral part of the festive season and we wanted to celebrate the iconic film moments on Sky Cinema whilst celebrating our partnership with Vue Cinemas. We can’t wait to spread the joy!”
Robin Garton, group ECD advertising, at Sky Creative, commented, “We’ve created a mini-Christmas Movie about Christmas movies. Narrative arc, protagonist, jeopardy, triumph - all the ingredients of great storytelling. It’s (back to) the stuff that made Christmas ads a thing in the first place.”
