When filmmaker and Youtube star Devin Graham took to the streets and rooftops of Paris to create his new Ubisoft-funded film for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, he seemed to be channelling the spirit of the popular series’ outlaw heroes. In order to recreate the game series’ signature parkour sequences, the crew found themselves dodging the gendarmerie and sending actors to scramble up onto buses while the drivers trundled onwards, completely oblivious.
This new film has been created to promote the October release of the latest in the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise, Unity, which will see the action transplanted to the French Revolution. The film, however, has a slightly more contemporary feel, as Devin explains. “Now, it's a period piece - now we can't set it in that period because there are a lot of modern cars so we decided to embrace that and go with it and add humour to that whole element.”
Devin Graham and his ‘Team Supertramp’ have been collaborating with Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed films for some time now, but the Unity film is the most ambitious yet as it stars not one but four expert parkourists and involved working with – and around – the public. Helpful tourists were roped in as extras in some of the busier shots. Devin has also created ‘live action’ versions of other games, such as Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and a fantastic, unofficial, musical medley for Halo.
And if that wasn’t enough excitement, Devin has also recently got his adrenaline pumping with The World’s Largest Urban Zipline, a stunt film for deodorant brand Speed Stick Gear. The stunt, which took place in Panama City, saw Devin and a host of daredevils jump off a tower using 2,000 ft ziplines attached to two cars.
