Sound engineer, music composer and head of sound production at Juice VFX Studio, Kuba Pietrzak, sheds light on the success of sound design in five special projects

I have been working in sound design for over 20 years. Throughout these years, I’ve developed a sensitivity that allows me to perceive stories through sound first and work out if it compliments the image well, and today I invite you to jump into my perspective. Choosing only five productions that make my heart race was not an easy task...

Samsung - '2022 Galaxy A: The Awesome Product Adventure'

Agency: Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam
Sound Design: GCRS

A perfect example of British sound aesthetics. The soundtrack is rich, yet not overdone, and dynamic, yet not overwhelming. It’s a pleasure to watch and listen to this crazy father and son adventure in the narration, of which sound is of great importance.

EA DICE - 'Battlefield 2042'

Production & Post: EA Marcom Cinematics
Music: 2WEI x Ali Christenhusz
Sound Design: Source Sound
This needs no actual commentary. Everything goes right here! The music, the sound effects, the mix of the whole thing. The different layers complement each other, and the mix itself is very skilfully managed so that the viewer gets sucked into the altogether very dynamic action, but at the same time is not overwhelmed by the soundtrack. Wow-factor at its finest.

Porsche - 'Bayenne Turbo GT'

Agency: Grabarz & Partner
Production: Markenfilm
Sound Design: Source Sound
A great example of so-called 'car porn'. Superbly recorded, carefully processed car sounds blended with brilliant abstract effects, giving a very dynamic and thrilling soundtrack. A sound engineering masterpiece!

PKN ORLEN - 'OLIMPICS TOKYO 2020: #TeamPoland'

Agency & Post: Grey Group Poland
Production: Film Produkcja
Music: Radzimir Jimek Dębski
Sound Design: Juice

The soundtrack reflects the importance of and great effort in preparing for the Olympics. Check out the intimate story built on voices, shouts, gasps and breaths highlighting how much athletes sacrifices for the Olympic start.

Techland - 'Dying Light 2: Stay Human'

Production, Post & Sound: Platige Image

First of all, this supernatural zombie world provides a great chance to tell an exciting story in the sound layer, and sound designers used that opportunity in a really good way. Interesting effects, well-guided dynamics and the sound complements what can be seen on the screen in an unobvious yet very accurate way.
