HBO Offers Fans Early Screening of The Righteous Gemstones at Lollapalooza

Known for bringing fans new ways to experience its hit programming, HBO will screen The Righteous Gemstones –– the latest new comedy series from Danny McBride –– at Lollapalooza 2019 two weeks before the series debuts in August.

Attendees of Lollapalooza will be able to view the first episode of The Righteous Gemstones in a custom air-conditioned tent located in the President’s Court North, across from the Lincoln Statue in Grant Park. In addition to providing a space where festival goers can escape the devilish heat, HBO’s revival tent experience will introduce fans to the Gemstones family and their televangelist empire and will offer unique photo opportunities in the tent entrance. HBO is also partnering with High Brew coffee, the official cold brew vendor for the festival, to offer a new flavor only available at the tent. The Lollapalooza activation is created in partnership with longtime HBO creative agency TVGla.

The Righteous Gemstones is a new comedy series that tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work. It stars Danny McBride as Jesse Gemstone, who sees himself as a maverick in the ministry game. Jesse takes what his father, Eli Gemstone (John Goodman), has built and expands it for a more modern audience. McBride also created the series and serves as executive producer and director alongside Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. McBride’s previous HBO series include Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals.

Also joining McBride in the cast is Vice Principals’ alum Edi Patterson as Jesse’s sister Judy; Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect) as Jesse’s younger brother Kelvin; Cassidy Freeman (Longmire) as Jesse’s wife Amber, a former journalist now devoted to the church; Tony Cavalero (School of Rock) as ex-Satanist Keefe Chambers; Tim Baltz (Drunk History) as Judy’s fiancé BJ; and Greg Alan Williams as Martin Imari, a conservative Kenyan and Eli’s right-hand man.

Screenings of the pilot episode of The Righteous Gemstones at Lollapalooza will be held Thursday August 1st through to Sunday August 4th from 11am to 8pm. The screenings run between 75-90 minutes and will begin at 11:30 am with four to six screenings planned each day. The entrance area to the tent will feature a number of unique photo opportunities including

-    An opportunity to pose with the Gemstones on stage at their Coliseum megachurch

-    A cool, refreshing water-mister blessing

-    A display exhibit featuring official Gemstone wardrobe

The Righteous Gemstones premieres on HBO on Sunday, August 18th at 10pm. The series will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms.
