Golden LA has added award-winning director Marc Sidelsky to its esteemed roster of directors. Marc's amazing eye for set design, crisp modern compositions, and deadpan visual comedy has established him as a talented filmmaker known for his sharp and distinctive sense of humour.
Renowned for his comedic films infused with stylish cinematic storytelling, Marc creates unforgettable spots by adding narrative depth to vivid imagery. His refreshing, nuanced characters immediately hook audiences with their unique perspectives and ground even Marc’s more esoteric work in realism. Born in Toronto and raised in South Africa, Marc has shot films around the globe with diverse talents like dance company Pilobolus, soccer player Bukayo Saka and the legendary martial artist and actor Chuck Norris. His entertainment and advertising career began as a creative researcher at a commercial production company and was later tapped by leadership to direct a VW spot. Shortly after, Marc directed a short film for a church, which landed him on the Saatchi’s Showcase at Cannes and launched his professional career.
Marc's bold films have garnered accolades at all major awards shows, including a Silver Clio for Direction, a Silver at 1.4 for Branded Content, the Grand Prix at Ciclope Africa 2021, Wood Pencils for Direction and in Fashion at D&AD, a Bronze Pencil at One Show, 3 Silver Crafts at Kinsale Sharks, and many more. Marc also won Best Music Video at Ciclope Africa for the Canadian band Dearly Beloved’s “Close Encounters.” His subversive comedic sensibilities and striking visuals can be seen in his numerous commercial collaborations with brands like Adidas, KFC, Nike, Spotify, Captain Morgan, and Vodafone, to name a few.
“Golden LA’s work is creatively exciting,” remarked Marc on signing. “Once I met Matt [Marquis] and Dahlia [Stone], the human component was a massive draw, too. They’re warm, driven, creative leaders who understand my work—they’re the perfect people to help me reach new heights as a filmmaker. Golden feels utterly modern and innovative, complete with gifted designers and digital artists who can maximize the potential of every job. I couldn’t be happier joining them.”
Matthew Marquis, managing director of Golden LA, added, “Marc and his films are a natural fit with us at Golden. His cinematic style is undeniably eye-catching. The way he executes his vision is inventive and enthralling. We’re thrilled that he’s decided to come on board with us at Golden LA, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for him.”
