GEICO is feeling the Halloween spirit and to celebrate, the brand is re-releasing ‘Horror Movie’ to commemorate the commercial’s 10th anniversary this month.
As part of GEICO's 2014 "It's What You Do" campaign, GEICO's ‘Horror Movie' highlights the simple, immutable truth that if you want to save money, you go to GEICO, it's what you do. The thematic 30 second spot, which first aired in 2014 during the spooky season, has aired annually on and off throughout October during the run-up to Halloween.
The creative plays off the idea that when you're in a horror movie, you make poor decisions, like deciding to hide behind the chainsaws in a garage. This illuminates smarter but equally obvious decisions, like switching to GEICO can save you money.
The 30 second spot, loved year after year by horror film fanatics, first aired in 2014, as part of the “It’s What You Do” campaign which also featured Salt-n-Pepa “Push it” and the Europe “Final Countdown” spots. It's back to reinforce that customers get more with GEICO, when they switch and save.
The spot has continued to stand the test of time, holding its rightful place in popular culture, including an excerpt on the ad in Stephen King’s novel Holly.
“Horror Movie” will run throughout the month of October.
