Tiempo Extra at Art Basel Miami sees guest artist Carlos Herrera create an art piece from Inter Miami CF’s equipment

The Buenos Aires-based gallery Futbolitis is teaming up with (re)boot, an organisation championing sustainability through the spirit of sport. Harnessing the raw passion of football with a vision for upcycling, guest artist Carlos Herrera creates a visual spectacle that offers a fresh perspective on the beauty of football to fans and art enthusiasts alike. Curated by Ezequiel Suranyi, this special 2023 edition puts the emphasis on materials that (re)boot sourced directly from Inter Miami CF.

Carlos Herrera, whose practice focuses on the assembly of found objects, disused textiles and organic materials, creates a body of work from waste, that engages with themes related to the aesthetics of bodies and their deterioration through photography, sculpture, objects, video and performance.

Alongside his work, the exhibition will be showcasing 10 more artists who portray their passion for football in their art: Ezequiel Suranyi, Mariana López, Eduardo Longoni, Andres Compagnucci, Silvina Aguirre, Marcelo Barchi, Emiliano Miliyo, Patricio Larrambebere, Lucia Harari and Guillermo Iuso.

Futbolitis and (re)boot joined forces with creative agency Sid Lee to craft Tiempo Extra’s experience and design a distinctive visual identity.

The exhibition Tiempo Extra will take place in the Miami Design District at 151 NE 41st St., Suite 133 from November 21st to December 21st. To see more of Futbolitis’s work, visit their Instagram page. To learn more about (re)boot, visit here.

“I am thrilled to align my company with artists who share a passion for sustainability in the realm of art. Collaborating on this exhibition during Art Basel Miami signifies our commitment to merging creativity with environmental responsibility and using football to make an impact beyond the pitch,” says Gabriella Más, founder of (re)boot.

“The gallery is proud to have created a synergy between (re)boot and Carlos Herrera’s vision as an artist. The transformation of apparently discarded material into a completely new body of work shows how this collaboration can redefine boundaries within art and design” says Ezequiel Suranyi, curator of Futbolitis.

“Tiempo Extra represents the intersection of football’s vibrant culture, its passionate fanbase, and the creative pulse of art enthusiasts. This initiative not only embodies the fusion of sports, art and sustainability but also underscores the profound impact that arises when these diverse elements harmonise. Our team is happy to count on an artist such as Carlos whose art makes a difference,” says Tom Ramsden, chief executive officer US of Sid Lee.
