For many veterans grappling with mental or physical trauma from their service, finding a path forward can be a challenge. The Invictus Games offer a meaningful opportunity for veterans to connect with a supportive community and rediscover their sense of identity through sport.
In creating this film, the team aimed to capture the essence of how being 'Built Different' serves as a common bond and source of strength for all the competitors involved.
These veterans have made remarkable choices in their lives, and their decision to compete in the Games, while confronting the obstacles they face, is the essence of what this spot celebrates.
“Working closely with the talent from the veteran community, and experiencing their trust to be vulnerable on camera, is an experience I'll always be grateful for,” said director Paul Sam Johnston. “Client, agency, and production went into this project hand in hand with a shared vision of what we wanted to create, and despite facing numerous practical challenges along the way, everyone was always actually working together to ensure this film never fell short of our intentions. I feel lucky to have had such a great group of people around me to make this spot what it is. Steve did an absolutely monumental job with the edit, crafting a dynamic pacing which was essential to express the shared experience amongst the competitors on screen, and CULT's score and sound mix really helped dial in the feeling we wanted this film to achieve.”
