FINCH director Alyssa McClelland has taken out
the top prize at the Sydney Film Festival's Short Film competition with
her film 'Second Best'.
Directed, produced and co-written by
McClelland, 'Second Best' is a dark comedy about the power of identical
twin sisters and their unbreakable bond, no matter what might try and
come between them.
With a mother who is a twin and having been surrounded by other
close twin relationships her entire life, Alyssa had been plotting the
story for a while.
Says McClelland: "The
twin relationship has always fascinated me. They share a womb and then
have to work out a way to share their lives. Or not. My mother and her
twin sister live around the corner from each other to this very day."
McClelland
partnered with 72&Sunny Amsterdam creative director Simone
Moessinger to write the film and cast real life identical twin actors,
Karina and Raechelle Banno.
Premiering in January at Flickerfest
where it took out the award for Best Direction in an Australian Short
Film, the film will next be in competition at Heartland Film Festival in
the USA.
